Flutters at Pulborough Brooks and St Marys House and Gardens

Couldn't go too far today, so off to Pulborough Brooks.. not many birds but I was mostly looking for flutters.

A rather tatty Gatekeeper..

Clouded yellow.. one day I'll get a pic with one with its wings open

Large White

Speckled Wood

Went elsewhere and bought a sandwich which I eat in the car... Then onto the village of Bramber .. my target, St Marys House and Gardens but had some time before it opened.  I've never really noticed St Marys before so glad I finally visited today.

A wander around the village..

St Marys House

The only remaining part of Bramber Castle

Apart from the church which is still in use and today serving teas..

and then to St Mary's House

The house was built c1450 and is currently occupied.

Once the home of the originals of Oscar Wilde's, The Importance of Being Earnest.  Other associations include Queen Elizabeth I and Charles II

Was also the location for Dr. Who and for a number of other TV series.

The house was saved from dereliction in 1984 by Peter Thorogood, author/composer an historian and Curator Roger Linton, conservator, designer and landscape gardener and additionally other members of their families.  Both Thorogood and Linton were awarded the MBE for services to conservation and art

A wander around the very pretty gardens before visiting the house.. no photography in the house = no pics.. but here's a link..
