Saturday at 5.00 a.m. the alarm went off and I was up. "Why? On a Saturday?" I hear you ask; because I was going to Norfolk for the day.
Last time I'd been I spent 45 minutes queuing to get through the Dartford Tunnel. Not so today - had the best trip around the M25 ever. Shot through local traffic lights - all green; no traffic; hardly anything on the M25 or M11 - good stuff. Arrived at Pete's in record time and I was even early!! Whey Hey.
As I was being wimpish about driving for about 7 hours in the same day, Pete very kindly offered to drive the remaining part of the trip. An offer I was very pleased to accept (and I didn't even back-seat drive!)
Started by looking for the White-crowned Sparrow but it hadn't been seen for some time. As Pete had seen it before and I really wanted to see Snow Buntings we headed off to Salthouse and Snow Buntings we saw. First bird of interest was a Marsh Harrier being mobbed by crows - great sight!
One of my other "I would love to see" was a Little Owl. "I can find you one" says Pete - and find one he did. Went into the hide, sat down and there it was! Now that's what I call "excellent delivery of service" (LOL) and a REsult! So two lifers in one day.
On the way back, "I've got something to show you". We went to Holy Trinity Church, Stow Bardolph to see the wax effigy of Sarah Hare. Very lifelike, very scary! Didn't take a pic though - silly me!
The weather was amazing; skylarks were singing, the sun was so warm and a virtually cloudless sky; was it really February or had I encountered the Tardis and been time shifted to April or May?
An excellent day; superb company (thanks Pete) and some stunning birds.
A Little Owl - but you'll have to take my word for it;
but a record shot that I actually saw one!
