Wakehurst Place... in the sunshine!

Last Wednesday I was visiting Mum for the day and the weather was glorious - very warm, sunshine and unbroken blue sky! Where to then? We decided on Wakehurst Place hoping to see the usual Autumn display of Cyclamen. We weren't disappointed!

I'm afraid there's rather a number of pictures but it was difficult to know what to leave out.

In the same area, fungus was growing..

We went inside the house which now seems to be an educational centre.

and into the small chapel that was a later addition and built onto the house.

The formal gardens were beautiful and as there was very little breeze the water was mirror-like!

The principal parts of the garden are in a deep valley.

Fly Agaric - two of them growing in the shade of the trees.

Some of the acers were getting the bronze of autumn colour.

And colours were everywhere...

And I was pleased to have had the macro lens with me..

A lovely time out but the following day (Thursday) was to be pouring with rain...!!

Tricia - are those the cyclamen under the trees in the first 2 photos? Showing my ignorance here, I'm sure, but the only cyclamen I have ever seen have hosue plants in pots! What a display they make under those trees. Your sunshine looks glorious. We have had so much rain this past week that our rivers are flooding and some communities have had to be evacuated. It is receding now, but I feel so bad for the folks whose homes are dmamged or ruined. Sunshine is in the forecast for next week.

Another nicely illustrated visit. I wish I could get cyclamen to grow. Mine only seem to last one year and then disappear. There are some outside a house not far away which come up every year.
Is that enormous tree a redwood I wonder? It certainly stands out above everything else.
