From Mid to North Wales..in sunshine and warmth!!

Well.......who'd had believed it.  The forecast was dismal...really dismal.  We awoke to - yes - blue skies and... sunshine... and white clouds.  Am I hallucinating I ask!!

Brekkie (the full English as usual) and then we set off.  It was under 100 miles and the  projected travelling time was 2 hours.. that seemed a long time but....

The scenery was amazing as we drove from Mid Wales..(fairly hilly in places) to the drama that was  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowdonia  in North Wales.  It is stunningly beautiful.

We got there about mid-day and went to Portmerion   How it all started can be found here..

It's an amazing collection of 'buildings' which aren't built to their correct size and consequently ply with the visual concept of scale... an interesting experience.. Some may remember the TV series "The prisoner" starring Patrick McGoohan... which was filmed here.

An amazing place.. we bought sandwiches and had a drink sitting in the sunshine.. it was a glorious day

and then on to Beddgelert to where we are staying for the remainder of the holiday. We are in the Snowdonia National Park amid the most amazing scenery.  The hotel is in the village which is situated where two rivers conjoin.. the Colwyn and Glaslyn.. beautifully crystal clear river water.

As often so far, house martins and swallows are nesting in building in the village and, as we walked along the river side, a male Mallard flew past.. followed by a Goosander (female)..Pete also managed to spot another Redstart (my binocs were in the car... drat!!)

St Marys church in the village..

A local steam train.. we hope to have a journey on this... weather permitting :D

Love this gate in the shape of two fish...

The river is in full spate and the conjoined river is the River Glaslyn

A detour to the grave of Gelert.. a sad story which you can read here..

There's a wonderful shop in the village that sells wood carvings... drool..

Our hotel..

and St Mary's church..

The wifi link here is a bit "intermittent" but at least we've managed to get the blogs up... and tomorrow.. is another day.. can we hope for similar weather?  Probably not... but today - an amazing day... we also had an ice cream in the village.. very nice.
