Wrest Park road testing a couple of lenses...

Pete and I pooled our resources and hired a couple of Panasonic lenses for the weekend.  We headed off for Wrest Park which has beautiful gardens. (We'd been there before about a year ago - strangely a year almost to the day - 12 August).

We were road testing the Panasonic 100-300 and the Panasonic 14-140.  Don't think either of them are worth purchasing (given the what I've got is better).  Both performed better in good light and anything moving wasn't in focus... the lenses don't focus that fast although the 14-140 has the edge of the 100-300 and didn't track moving subjects too well.

So today a mixture using the Panasonic GF1 with the 14mm pancake lens and the Panasonic G3 with either of the two hire lenses.

We had lunch there but today, quite amazingly - no cake!! The food is quite good but their organisation of serving system and paying could be somewhat improved!

A good day nonetheless...

A great trip....it's a beautiful place. I really like the ceilings.
This slow focussing is a problem common to many tele zooms. f11+ and manual focus is one way round it. It can help if the lens is not used at the long limit.

Lots of nice shots here Tricia, I can tell where you used the 14mm. Its a great lens for scene shots.
The 100-300mm needs best light for decent results. The 14-140 gets great reviews when used on a GH2 for video work.
Panasonic has brought out a new lens, 12-35mm f2.8 which should be really good, but it is very expensive.

the 14-140 was, I thought, as good a the travel lenses as those of the other manufacturers. No not as good as the primes but a little unfair comparison really.

IF the continuous AF could be improved....

BTW we must have been ill. no cake!
