I'm furious with the Government - again!!

This post has nothing to do with birds or wildlife. Except that I am feeling very wild about a government proposal.

According to a BBC article, the Tories have been unsuccessful in challenging the Government's proposals to increase car tax for older cars. (It is claimed that the government plan to "look at the plans again" in the Chancellor's pre-budget report later this year.)

Now that makes my blood really boil. I'm the owner of a 1600 cc 12-year old car.

It's not good on the emission front so not environmentally friendly; and that I'm not happy about.
It's now, because of it's age, getting more expensive to run and maintain
I'm paying far more road tax (£101.75 for six months) than new cars
I no longer need a car of this size as I did 8 years ago when I first bought it
I would dearly love to change my car for a smaller, more-emission-friendly, cheaper to run and maintain car - but I can't - because I can't afford to.

So the Government are proposing, not only to make changing my car even more impossible than it is now, but to make me financially worse off just by doing nothing. And there must be many people in my position.

I can well understand your feeling on this Tricia. My Land rovers are a 1969 and a 1971 models which mean I do not have to pay car tax, as they are deemed "Historic Vehicles". One thing about the arguement for owning an older car is if everyone had new cars and older ones were scraped then all that power and resources needed making new ones would be just as bad.. and not forgetting that ever bit of a newer car cannot be recycled.
They do as they see fit, whilst being driven home in their 2 or 3 litre high powered executive cars to there second homes which an allowance is claimed..
I'd better shut now .. but yes Tricia I feel for you.

I think my anger got the better of me and I didn't read it properly,

However, my comments still stand as there will be many people adversely affected by this; so my comments stand on their behalf.
