I met Pete for a trip to Barnes this morning, but as usual the weather was grey and dull with bad light for pictures.
Spent most of the morning on the reserve except for a stop at the cafe - where Pete decided to have a cooked breakfast and I discovered it was just too hard to resist - so we had "brunch" - lovely!
The reserve was quiet in terms of birds and people but we did manage a couple of Goldcrests, a Great Crested Grebe and Little Grebe, Siskins, Long-tailed Tits, loads of Blue Tits, Great Tits, Goldfinches and Chaffinches. Lapwings, Cormorants, Teals, Wigeon, Gadwall etc. and some Collection Birds
And just a few pics:
As if I don't see enough Ring-necked Parakeets!
or Grey Squirrels.
Little Grebe
Male Teal
Two Canada Geese flying over
Group of Wigeon
(Collection birds)
American Wigeon
Male Eider
Marbled Teal
Cormorant (wild bird)
Male Shoveler
Female Shoveler
and, in the little sunshine that we had, sunlit Reeds

If you use your imagination you can just make out a Bittern in those reeds - honest you can!
I enjoyed a dip today - no show Penduline Tits at Rainham!
Cameras plus friend and I to Barnes probably Tuesday to seek out mysterious Kingfishers...she thinks they dont exist off the TV!
Still keeping an eye out for Waxwings....some in Folkstone today....west London...west london is where we want you!
cheers
C
The last photo of the reeds and water is really good. You have such a lot of different duck species. I wonder how many of the ones you photograph are exotics - or maybe you don't call them that?
Lovely photos, I especially like the reed heads, I imagine they look so magical on a frosty or foggy morning.
Once again lovely pictures.
great pics tricia. Im planning a trip to the wetland centre in the days after xmas. Hopefully the weather and birds will be kind, though i guess I wont see the dragonflies and marsh frogs I saw last time lol
Neil - hope you're lucky with the Bittern - we dipped unfortunately!
Think we'll all have to wait a bit for dragons and frogs though :)
