The Eyes have it.

Having taken my grandson home just after lunch time, I popped into Claremont Gardens (it was open!) so see what state the water was in. Needless to say, the lake was about 90% frozen which left a small area for the birds. This made getting pictures somewhat easier and the light reflecting off the ice helped a bit too; albeit some times you could have too much of a good thing.

Today it was the birds' eyes that caught my attention

Male Mallard - they really do have the most amazing colours..
(the pictures really do benefit from being viewed full size - just click on the picture)

Black Swan (collection bird)

Chiloe Wigeon (collection birds)

Red Crested Pochard

Mandarin Duck (male)

Frozen waters...

A snow covered amphitheatre. Hard to imagine that in the summer months when Claremont has open-air concerts, we sit on the ground here to listen to the music!

Beautiful photos with all the eyes. Everything else looks COLD! Very interesting to see some of the ducks in the water and others so close on the ice.
