A wander around Bushey Park

I was in need of exercise today having been fairly unavoidably sedentary over the last day or so. Consequently after having done some shopping and met a friend for coffee this morning followed by stopping in briefly at home for a quick sandwich, I headed off for Bushey Park for fresh air and a stretch of the legs. Dull day by the time I got there, and I walked around the Woodland Gardens today, ending up by the Boating Lake just before coming home.

My first sighting was of two Song Thrushes and immediately after by two Kestrels; next observations was a Great Spotted Woodpecker and I heard a Nuthatch and a Wren. This in addition to the normal suspects found in the park.

And... as my legs won't function without a camera over my shoulder....

A garden visitor from the other day..

Posing male Mandarin

who felt some preening was in order

Spot the odd one out?

I'm sure there's far many more Jackdaws about than in the past...

This is MY landing post....

and I'm having a bad wing day..

Fungi..

and Catkins... Yay!!

and I can't miss out the snowdrops.

Love the Snowdrops - again. Have they been planted? Any spring flowers here have to be carefully planted and tended in this climate, as you can imagine; but as a child in New Zealand I remember places where daffodils had gone wild and covered whole fields.

Mick - I suspect the snowdrops have been planted; but even so they will probably be left to naturalise now.

Paul - thanks. Thought the gulls might appeal to you :D

OC thanks - they are rather handsome birds.. Such beautiful colours that cheer up the dullness of the day.

Roy - thanks - and yes you're right - I love snowdrops and mainly because they represent the start of the new year's growth towards spring.

ST - HO HO - I was think of the gull - but I'm sure you know that anyway LOL.

Hi Tricia

The Mandarin ducks are fantastic. If we were given the task of designing a duck (by God or Evolution depending on your beliefs) I don't think any of us could have done anything better than the Mandarins:-)

Lynmiranda - they are amazingly colourful birds. The colours are also so well defined that they look "painted".

Lets not forget the Wood Duck, American species. But kept in park collections. Well worth a photo or 2 if you see them.
