Sun - birds - flowers

Today I only had the afternoon to "play". The sun was shining and warm and I headed off for a bit of birding at RHS Wisely. I'd taken a light jacket - which I carried in my backpack all afternoon.

Warm sun, my first Peacock Butterfly of the year; Yellow Brimstones; Bumble bees, the scent of many flowering shrubs, birds... - hey reality check - yep - it's the UK and it's Spring!

I saw: at the feeder on Battlestone Hill - Blue, Great and Coal Tits, Nuthatch, Siskin (female) Chaffinches, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Robin, Treecreeper

And nestbox 47 is still being visited (FAB please note)

Elsewhere in the gardens: Green Woodpecker (well - on a tree in the Golf course seen across the river from the gardens) and Grey Wagtail (on a branch in the river); the usual Mallards, Coots and Moorhens. Blackbird, Goldfinches and Robin etc. etc.

Birds
Blackbird singing his sub-song high on the building's roof

Great Spotted Woodpecker - he likes sunflower hearts!

as does this female Siskin

and the Nuthatch

The chaffinch sits high up in the tree

but feeds (mostly) on the ground

whilst the Grey Wagtail prefers a watery perch

and I can't post without including a singing Robin

Flowers around the garden
Irises

Magnolia Buds

Pulmonaria

Magnolia

Rushes

And in the Glasshouse

Orchids

Oh how I love Spring :D

What a beautiful selection of photos. Thanks for sharing your trip. Hands down it was the woodpeckers that caught my eye today! What great clear shots they are too - just brilliant. Now... it's my turn to be green with envy :-D

Hi, Tricia
Just had a chance to catch up with your recent posts, beautiful photos throughout, as usual. I particularly liked the Woodpecker, Siskin and Nuthatch. Lovely colourful flowers also.

ShySongbird: Thanks - it was a colourful day all round I feel!

Roy: It's not a huge area to cover so it's relatively easy to get round most parts in a short time.

Stewart: Thanks - Robin's ares such cheery bird :D

Hi Chris - thanks for your kind comments. I agree about preferring the bird pictures but the others were too good not to photograph.
