Last Saturday I headed off to Welney with Pete in the hopes of seeing some incoming Whooper swans. There were a few about but not there in the numbers that there will be in the coming weeks. Needless to say the weather was awful!! It did clear a bit and the heavy rain became lighter but.....
So after a soup and roll for lunch at Welney (where I bumped into some acquaintances paying a visit on their return from birding in Norfolk) we headed off for somewhere drier - namely Ely Cathedral; another first visit for me.
Just some of the pictures around the Cathedral. Another fascinating building but I think (for me) it's Wells Cathedral that really stands out.
Still - in spite of the weather a good time was had and in good company - just wish the weather has been good too... But the Sunday was wonderful with brilliant sunshine....

Lovely to see the Whoopers Tricia, we don't normally see them round here. There were two at Draycote the other day but they only stayed one day and were gone before I could get there :(
Ely does look magnificent but I very much liked Wells when I visited it years ago.
Sorry to read about the passing of Boo on the previous post. Our very first dog was called Boo, he was already called Mike when we had him but somehow turned into Boo :)
That's a beautiful cathedral Tricia, it's Ely the favourite of everyone.
only 3 pics of the swans? tut tut
HI Tricia,
Well the whoopers are not there anymore so I guess they will come to you soon. You got nice shots of them ;-)
When you look at the fantastic intricate carvings and decorations in the old cathedrals you can see why they took decades to build.
Jan - thanks for your kind comment re Boo. I really like Wells but am always amazed by the construction of many old buildings.
Bob - Ely is great isn't it!
Pete - didn't take as many as you ;)
Chris - thank you... I shall be keeping my eyes open.
John - incredible isn't it that all that work was done without the aid of modern machinery - what craftsmenship!
Fantastic cathedral.
