In Kent for hols...and the rain came too

Well we set off at crack of dawn and the rain was raining as we drove off.  Wasn't too bad on the motorways and we managed to get through the Dartford Crossing before the toll charges started. woo hoo.  We made good time and stopped at a service station on the M20 for a cuppa.

When we got back to the car, Pete couldn't find his phone.. finally found it when it rang in his pocket... and a similar occurrence happened later in the day .... so glad it wasn't me!! :D

Our first stop was the pub we're staying where we had the Full English, Tea and Toast.. excellent :D

Pete had a couple of churches on his list and the first one was St. Mary's at Eltham.

The organ loft is one the most decorative I have seen...beautiful wood..

The rain had stopped whilst we were there and we went on to find, with great difficulty, the 2nd church which was All Saints at Boughton Aluph

Then it was a choice of Sissinghurst or Scotney Castle - it was the latter.

We got there at lunch time and had some very spicey veg soup.... very nice!  Whilst eating this sitting outside in the sun the black clouds gathered - we headed off for the house.  So glad as it then chucked it down!!

It was still torrential rain when we came out of the house,.. so we had a cuppa in the hope that the weather would clear and we could get into the gardens.  Hey ho.... it was not to be.  However, the Carrot and the Coffee cake were excellent :D

You don't expect to see the glow of lights through the windows in the middle of a July afternoon.. however...

So, quite while we're ahead, we thought, and headed off back to where we're staying.

The forecast promises better weather tomorrow.... time will tell ;)

Those polka dot dishes are priceless. A wonderful house altogether. Lovely church as well.
