Well, time to pack our cases and go home. After breakfast we checked out and walked through the streets of Florence for the last time before boarding the bus to Pisa. Bus services are excellent and the trains (I've heard from several people) run on time... novel experience :D
On arrival in Pisa we stowed our luggage at the airport and caught a local bus to visit the Piazza dei Miracoli. It's sooo commercialised!! Loads of market-type stall selling tourist stuff. There was even a McDonalds...!
We elected NOT to walk up to the top of the Tower (was a hot day and a long day ahead of us) but instead visited the Baptistery and the Duomo - some very impressive buildings.
The Baptistry
The Duomo
Inside the Baptistry
and then a visit to the Duomo - which is considerably more decorative than the Florence Duomo
The Leaning Tower... such a familiar sight!
So time to get back to the airport. We had a wander, picked up our luggage and waited awhile to check in. We'd hoped to take our time having a meal but the food outlets (understandably) were 'OK' but no more than that. So found something to eat and sat outside on the grass.
Flight took off and landed ontime and we could see the lights of the various cities below us as we flew over... Passport control when we landed too ages, but we got our bags and caught the shuttle bus to the car park. All quite straight forward.. Stanstead is so much easier than Heathrow or Gatwick.
A wonderful holiday, in great company (thank you, Pete.....) with lots of cherished memories...

Lovely photos of the whole holiday Tricia. What a wonderful place with such beautiful sculptures, art, churches, buildings, gardens. Thanks so much for sharing and so glad you had such a lovely time. Perhaps I ought to get a passport after all :) - you've both made me realise what we are missing out on!
Its a bit basic at Pisa airport Tricia and we usually sit out on the seats or grass because you can get more air out there.
Lovely series of posts about your visit. Thanks.
