We set off for Lecce yesterday morning (Friday 18 May) ..it was bright when we left but turned to rain later..and we became victims of a traffic queue to an accident and road works.
Nonetheless, we arrived in reasonable time and started our tour.. Today we had a local guide who was very knowledgeable but there was just so much information and detail to take in.
Basilica of Santa Croce... unfortunately I couldn't view the imposing front of the church as it's under wraps being renovated
Lecce is know for its making of Papier Mache objects. This guy was busy demonstrating this..seems his work is often commissioned for church objects.
And then into the main square for the The Duomo... Lecce's Cathedral
Then after some lunch, a wander
Some 'owl' pottery
Frogs on a balcony rail
Papier Mache figure
and our visit ended here. Interesting city and certainly many Baroque buildings as there are in Florence... but, for me, although Lecce is described as "Florence of the South of Italy", it didn't hugely appeal to me. In fairness though, it was very dull weather and it rained for a good part of the day. Enjoyable day out nonetheless.
