And we pay tribute to all those who have fought for their countries throughout the years - some very recent and still continuing, to allow us to live our lives with the freedom we have today.
Too many wars have been fought over the decades. It is my fervent wish that we, the inhabitants of our world, can live in peace with each other. Is this too much to ask or hope for? I think not!
So, my tribute to those who have given us so much and acknowledging those left behind.
"The Soldier" by Robert Brooke
If I should die think only this of me;
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.
And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness;
In hearts at peach, under an English heaven.

A grand post.
I echo your sentiments but not your optimism.
While ever we have a massive arms industry then we will have politicians wanting to play with their toys.

A great post Tricia.
Thanks Keith and Adrian. Adrian, you have quite a point there.
And thanks for your tip about 'ticking anonymous' I'm not sure where I do this however.
