My blog is mostly about wildlife, particularly birds, walking, days out, all growing things and anything else that comes to mind.

and finally, Monday and sadly we had to go home

Hey ho - it's our last morning. At about 5 a.m. there was torrential rain, a flash of lightening and a clap of thunder... wonderful!  The forecast promised heavy showers with occasional sun,  Fortunately for us, by the time we'd packed and had breakfast, the rain had stopped.

Today is our last day and ironically, the area of streets in which our hotel was, was having their electricity cut off in order that the electricity board could do some essential work.

We left our cases with the hotel and set off.  Our flight wasn't until the evening.

Just a couple of showers during the day but nothing to deter us..

Had a general wander around the city..

and visited some churches... they are all magnificent!

Our breakfast (early that is was) had slipped somewhat so we stopped for a drink and.. a piece of cake!!

Another visit to the Piazza de Popolo

Seen in a shop window and rather caught my eye... my favourite colour :)

Another Church.. this time the Chiesa san Luigi dei Francesi

The next three paintings are all by Carvaggio.. rather impressive

Ah Segway,.. neat way to travel!

and the final Church of the day... and, sadly, the visit

on the way back to collect our luggage... a few of the cats out despite the wet stuff!!

A swollen river!

WE noticed that Victor Emmanuelle museum had a lift going to the top of the building.  So, for 7 euros we went upwards.  Magnificent views across the city!

Poppies in bloom!!

And for the last time, we passed the Coliseum on the way to pick up our cases and head off to the airport.

Flight was delayed for about 25 minutes.  But priority boarding justified its cost and finally we boarded.  A bit of turbulence and then, finally, landed at Stansted.. the usual long wait to clear passport control and then..

... we got home about 00.30 - and oh boy!!! was it cold!!!

A fantastic few days,
in the spring sunshine, in a beautiful city, with incredible history and architecture and, great company - thanks Pete for making it such a wonderful trip!!.

I will post a summary of birds (5 lifers) and my thoughts tomorrow...
