It's the hottest day of the year so far.. in fact 40 degrees on the centre court at Wimbledon Tennis Club where the men's finals are being played. Glad I'm just sitting here ....
I headed off for Wakehurst Place for when it opened. Didn't really want to go further, but although Wakehurst Place is beautiful, mostly it's a bit too formal for my taste... a very personal feeling. Whilst the property is owned by the National Trust, it is managed by Kew Botanic Gardens - hence all the amazing planting!
Having said that, there are some amazing trees, shrubs and plants and lots of water and interest - I would recommend it if you're anywhere near.
So a stroll around....
A metal beetle :)
The Jackdaws were feeling the heat and sitting with their beaks open to cool down a bit..
This female mallard (one of many mallards about), was heading off for the nearest water
whilst the male had found it and was having a welcome bath!
I stopped for a cold drink (and a piece of cake - very nice coffee cake) before finally giving in and heading off home!
and the next couple of weekends... watch this space....
