The day started cloudy but it was a bit cooler which was welcome.
We headed off for Sizergh Castle.. which an imposing medieval house still lived in by the Strickland family.
This is the very old barn
Into the Rock Garden which has an amazing collection of Acers - some of which are over 100 yers old.
I hadn't checked properly and discovered when we arrived that the house was closed on Mondays
It was a bit early for lunch and after a rather hearty breakfast we decided to have lunch at our next venue.
Which was Levens Hall - famous for its very large garden of Topiary - it's very impressive.
So after sharing a scone for lunch we started our wander around the gardens
A new cafe & entertainment space is being built
and a slight detour on the way back to the top of three water falls at Aira Rock.
It was a very steep walk down ...
and we arrived at the top of the falls.
It was getting to be quite late in the afternoon so we didn't climb all the way down... we will go back on another day
And a stop for a picture of Ullswater on the way back
Another excellent day out!
