Went to Standen House & Gardens today as Hollybush Farm House was open to the public and I like Standen at anytime of the year.
I didn't go into the house today as the sun was too glorious to miss! and it was gloriously warm!!
Painted Lady
This is Tabby, the Standen cat.. who likes sitting in the lane where the cars approach the visitor entrance!
Hollybush Farm House was open to the public today. Normally it is NT staff accommodation, but given they're between and outgoing and incoming member of staff, we were lucky enough to see inside. Originally dating to 1450, the cottage was formerly called Great Holly Bush Farmhouse and is the oldest building at Standen.
A Grey Wagtail drinking from the pool... too dark for a decent picture but I liked the muted colour effects.
On the Verbena Bonarensis - a Peacock butterfly. In addition to this and the Painted Lady, I also saw a Red Admiral.. amazing for first week in October.
and a Robin was singing its heart out
An excellent fruity scone for lunch!
Plenty of bees about.. no doubt from the several hives in the gardens.
A really enjoyable morning!.
