First day in Verona - beautiful

Up at silly o'clock to head off to Stansted Airport... no problems getting up early when holiday are involved.  Flight left on time and was a good one.

Arrived at Verona airport and got a taxi to our hotel.. its not far but when encumbered with heavy cases it's well worth the money.

So dumped our bags, grabbed cameras and off out into the sunshine and warmth.

The Amphitheater..

and there was a flower market on for three days in the Piazza Bra... the floral decorations were beautiful

and some food stalls... cheeses and meats on this one :)

and not ice cream, but cheese cones!!

so off for a further wander

In and around the Piazza delle Erbe

The Piazza dei Signori

and there's a statue of Dante...

The Scaligeri Tombs - amazing detail..

Chiese Santa Maria Antica

Inside the Santa Maria Antica church

and then along the Arno River.  We saw Swallows and also Crag Martins... wonderful :D

and a stop for lunch back in the Piazza delle Signoria - and our first glass of Prosseco - nice one Pete :)

 Ponte Scaligero

and a very young Blackbird Chick

Then back to the hotel to unpack etc before heading out for  dinner....

Juliet's Balcony at Casa di Giulietta -  associated with Romeo & Juliet's famous scene.

Easter Eggs!

'Sheep' Easter Eggs..

Torre dei Lamberti with an almost full moon above it
lovely way to finish our first evening in Verona... and tomorrow?  somewhere somewhat different :)
