My blog is mostly about wildlife, particularly birds, walking, days out, all growing things and anything else that comes to mind.

The Lake District - we arrive

Up at crack of dawn and off on the motorways.  The forecast was for grey skies and rain - and we certainly has both of those on the drive up.

Stopped for a quick breakie at a service station and then drove straight up to the lakes.   And as we got nearer the sun came out, the dark clouds went away and the day was glorious.

We stopped at Wray Castle on the shores of Windermere .  When the castle came to the National Trust is was devoid of any of its contents and the rooms show signs of modern utilities.

The view over the lake as we walked up to the castle..

By now being peckish, we had a fruit scone and cuppa ... pleasant scone but Mr Ponders abstained

Started with a wander inside the Castle

Beatrix Potter lived in this area and this year celebrates 150th anniversary of her birth.

This was very much the children's area but this 'child' thoroughly enjoyed it ..

Then off down the hill to the lake... where we had a wander in the sunshine..

Ooh what are those out on the lake..... in fact about 32 Goosanders ... too far away for a decent picture and not the right camera... but lovely to see them!!!

And finally to Hawkeshead to the hotel and a wander around the village .. more pics of village another day

and tomorrow .. off  somewhere new...
