Winkworth Arboretum...lovely day :D

Being a Bank Holiday in the UK you would expect the weather to be bad... but it's been a glorious day!  As my daughter had to work today, I picked my Grandson up (who would probably rather have stayed asleep) and we went off to Winkworth Arboretum.. and, hopefully, bluebells!

We had a quick trip through the cafe;  flapjack for me... cookie and crisps for J (oh what healthy eaters we are.... )

The Arboretum is on a hillside and very steep... the visitor centre and car park are at the top so, it's easy peasy setting off but not so easy after walking and having to climb back up.  So a few stops on the return journey... just to admire the view of course.

The Arboretum is best in Spring in Autumn, in my opinion.  Not quite as many bluebells as I'd hope but enough to make a good impression of blue.  The best bluebells were in woods on the way over, but there was nowhere I could stop the car to take pictures.

I've been here a few times before, so the views may be familiar!

A newly created viewpoint - there's a very long drop the other side.. Grandson J was first up!

and the view of the drop from the viewpoint!

There are two of these geese and they will follow anyone who looks as though they have food.  A family of three sat down on a bench but had to move off when Hungry Goose came up to be fed.

In the small clump of reeds on the far side of the lake, a Sedge Warbler.... warbled!

A few Canada Geese about and some Mallards and Coots.  Also heard Blackcap, Chiffchaff and a drumming Green Woodpecker on a few occasions!  The drakes were chasing a solitary female which was rather frustrating for her 3 ducklings!

Still some daffodils and narcissi around

Lovely walk and after a stop for a welcome cold drink, we headed off.  Thanks for your company J!!

(and this time next week... the pictures will be of a different country altogether :D )
